The legendary reggae singer Sanchez, who is most renowned for his reggaefied versions of pop and r&b soul hits from the 1970s and 1980s, releases his latest album Love You More today (Aug 2) on VP Records. Sanchez delivers 12 new romantic cover songs, recorded in collaboration with producer Donovan Germain of Penthouse Productions. The mix is decidedly mellow with Sanchez voicing familiar favorites from Teddy Pendergrass, The Isley Brothers, The Spinners, Richard Marx, Bunny Sigler and Bobby Womack.
In addition, Okayplayer’s Large Up writer Jesse Serwer calls Sanchez “Jamaica’s karaoke king” and notes “in anyone else’s hands a reggae Richard Marx cover would be better left unmentioned but…reserve your judgment ’cause this is the guy who turned a better-left-forgotten mid-80′s Jermaine Jackson single into one of the most essential tunes in any ’90s dancehall set.”
