Jamaica secured two wins and five honorable mentions in Caribbean Travel + Life’s coveted annual “Best of the Caribbean” Readers’ Choice Awards. This year, 17,000 of the Caribbean’s most prolific and discerning travelers voted for the region’s top destinations and attractions in 24 categories.
Readers selected Jamaica’s Red Stripe as the Caribbean’s “Best Beer” and Rick’s Café in Negril for hosting the “Best Happy Hour.” Jamaica also received an honorable mention for categories including, “Best Overall Destination.” Additionally, the following Jamaican attractions and resorts received honorable mentions: Reggae Sumfest: “Best Festival;” Appleton: “Best Rum;” Half Moon: “Best Golf Resort;” and The Caves: “Best Romantic Resort.”
“We’re thrilled to be recognized by so many who are passionate about Caribbean travel and know the region so well,” said Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch. “These awards not only highlight our island’s strengths, but also challenge us in our ongoing commitment to make Jamaica the leading Caribbean destination and provide visitors with unrivaled attractions and accommodations.”
Each year, Caribbean Travel + Life, the only US national publication dedicated exclusively to the Caribbean region, invites their readers to vote for their favorites in the annual Best of the Caribbean Readers’ Choice awards.
“Our readers are the true experts on the Caribbean, and their response was overwhelming, with more than 250,000 individual votes cast,” stated Sue Gilman, Bonnier’s Travel and Lifestyle Group Publisher. The winners of the 2011 Best of the Caribbean are featured in the January/February 2011 issue of Caribbean Travel & Life.
