Whenever the name Pennsylvania or Philadelphia is mentioned, easily one reflects on the major sporting event “PENNS RELAY” which is dominated by Jamaicans over the years. Many historic track records of Jamaican athletes, has set the world stage here, that lead to superb dominance.

However history is in the making once more, come Tuesday 6th of August 2013, at the Jamaica’s 51st Independence Ceremony, in the Mayors Conference Room at City Hall Philadelphia, starting at 12:00 P.M. and ends at 2:00 P.M. Ms. Karen Stokes – Deputy Director in the office of Hon. Tom Corbett- Governor of Pennsylvania, on behalf of Governor Tom Corbett, Ms. Karen Stokes will make by proclamation “Jamaica Independence Week” from August 5th to August 10th each year.

This high recognition of Jamaica’s most eloquent holiday is taking the City of Philadelphia by storm. The State of Pennsylvania will be the first State throughout the USA, to officially recognize by proclamation of a national Jamaican holiday on USA soil. This legacy will serve as a national Jamaican pride, for generations to come in the State of Pennsylvania. This significance has lead to a vibrant Jamaica’s 51st Independence Celebration, throughout the City of Philadelphia, to include various Jamaican organizations.

With the commitment of the Jamaica Pennsylvania Association, to promote Jamaica’s history and culture and collaborate with other entities to sustain our national motto “OUT OF MANY, ONE PEOPLE”.

I am proud to be a Jamaican born, from an Island with such rich history & cultural value, I believe it’s our solemn duty to share it, with others. Jamaica Pennsylvania Association, and it’s members, are committed to sustain the integrity of our island, and promote our indigenous culture, with dignity of Jamaican pride.
