Jamaica’s capital city provides a break from the chilly wintry weather and offers visitors a chance to warm up to the sights of Kingston during the 2nd Annual Kingston City Run, March 7 – 9, 2014. Escape the cold, pack your bags and lace up your shoes in Jamaica as you take to the streets for a half marathon or 5K run/walk. Organized by the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association’s (JHTA) Kingston Chapter, the weekend event will also include a carnival fete and a health and wellness fair.
“The Jamaica Tourist Board is once again pleased to partner with the Kingston Chapter of the JHTA for the staging of this remarkable event which places the spotlight on the capital city,” said John Lynch, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism. “Kingston is rich in culture and heritage and race participants will get an opportunity to explore historic sights and experience the city’s active nightlife.”
An exciting weekend of activities has been planned starting Friday night, March 7th with the Welcome Party at Bacchanal Mas Camp. Saturday the 8th starts with the Health and Wellness Expo where attendees are invited to get health and medical advice, purchase health and wellness gear and souvenirs throughout the day. Saturday will close with a Pre-Race banquet for runners to “carb-up” before the big races on Sunday March 9th. The races on March 9th will be followed by an awards ceremony at Emancipation Park.
Kingston City Run will take participants through the heart of Kingston and past many historic sites including Devon House, King’s House, Vale Royal, Bob Marley Museum, Hope Gardens, and The University of West Indies.
Proceeds from the event will go towards helping the homeless through the following charities: Missionaries of the Poor, Open Arms Drop-in Centre, Food for the Poor, Marie Atkins Night Shelter and Alpha Boys Home.
