Jamaica’s Palmyra Foundation and the New York Urban League are set to benefit from the inaugural Jamaica Open NY (JONY) Pro-Am Golf Championship to be held on Monday August 4, 2014 at the Marine Park Golf Course in Brooklyn, NY.  It will be hosted by the Alsion Roach Business Group with the support of the Jamaica Tourist Board.
The August 4th event commences with a shotgun start at 9:00 am and will be followed by a silent auction and awards ceremony later that day. Golf professionals will vie for the $5,000 cash prize and a major highlight of the event is the $1 million Hole-in-One. Other prizes will be given for the longest drive as well as best and worst scores.
“We welcome the creation of the Jamaica Open NY, which will afford golf enthusiasts in the New York tri-state an opportunity to fine tune their skills for the Jamaica Invitational Pro-Am “Annie’s Revenge” to be held in Montego Bay from October 28 to November 2,” stated Donnie Dawson, Deputy Director of Tourism-Sales from the Jamaica Tourist Board.  “Proceeds from the Jamaica Open Tournament will benefit two deserving organizations and we encourage strong participation, further demonstrating the strong ties between New York and the Caribbean community.”
A number of dignitaries are expected to be in attendance to participate in the Jamaica Open NY ribbon cutting ceremony on August 4th including: Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, Herman LaMont, former Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Hon. Andrew Holness and former Jamaican Ambassador to the United States Audrey Marks.
Entry fee for the golf tournament is $150 per person for amateurs and $250 per person for professionals and the deadline to enter is July 25th. This includes greens fees, a golf cart, lunch, a special gift bag and dinner.
The JONY invitation-only launch event, Reggae on the Green, will be held on Sunday, August 3rd where guests can enjoy Jamaican-inspired food, cocktails and music. Brooklyn’s own Tasty Delicious West Indian Bakery & Restaurant will be providing the themed menu while Derrick Barnett & the Statement and DJ Roy from Road International & Irie Jam Radio NY will be the live music entertainment.
