Jamaica’s top chef Brian Lumley, is set to bring his island flavor to the Big Apple during Caribbean Week in New York, June 1 – 8, 2013. Lumley, the reigning Chef of the Year, will participate in the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO)’s Celebrity Chef Program, which includes an in-store cooking demonstration on Tuesday, June 4 at Bloomingdales, one of the city’s top department stores.
“Our jerk cuisine is world renowned and we welcome the participation of our home grown chef Brian Lumley during Caribbean Week to serve up some of his favorite jerked delights,” said Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch. “We are pleased that Chef Lumley is able to showcase our culturally rich cuisine which visitors have grown to love and appreciate,” he added.
Lumley, a Jamaican gourmet prodigy, has been making his mark on the local and regional culinary landscape in recent years and is keen to partner with the Jamaica Tourist Board during this year’s Caribbean Week activities. In addition to the cooking demonstrations, Chef Lumley will also serve as guest of the resident chef for CTO’s Allied Awards Luncheon on Friday, June 7 at The New Yorker Hotel.
A seasoned professional, Chef Lumley has demonstrated excellence in his craft by winning the coveted Taste of Jamaica’s ‘Chef of the Year’ award in 2008 (the youngest chef ever to win this prestigious honor at age 21) and most recently in 2012.
Chef Lumley’s week-long visit has been made possible through the kind support of Best Dressed Foods and Walkerswood Caribbean Foods, which will provide condiments for his tasty jerk treats and Fly Jamaica Airways which is responsible for his travel to New York.
Fly Jamaica Airways began service to New York from Kingston in February. The route is served with its world-class Boeing 757 which seats 198 passengers, including 12 Business Class seats and 186 Economy Class seats. Fly Jamaica operates four weekly flights on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and Mondays.
