The year 2013 could easily be described as the year of playwright Patrick Brown after two (2) mega successes on the stage in GLASS SLIPPAZ and LADIES OF THE NIGHT.
LADIES OF THE NIGHT wrapped only recently at Centerstage Theatre amidst howls of delight from patrons and demands to keep it going. But the producers (JAMBIZ) were forced to bring it to an end given their annual commitment to open a new production each Boxing Day.
But the writer/director (Patrick Brown) was quick to assure patrons that the new production – IF THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WIFE will pack the same entertainment value for which Jambiz productions have become renown.
The cast of IF THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WIFE is made up by the super-team which has brought so much fun and laughter to the growing legion of Jambiz die-hards. Leading the way again will be Mr. Comedy himself – Glen “Titus” Campbell. He shares the limelight with Courtney Wilson, Camille Davis, Sharee McDonald-Russell and Sakina Deer.
After a brief hiatus from the stage Camille Davis returned triumphantly in LADIES OF THE NIGHT, literally stealing the show with one of the best comedic performances seen on the local stage for a very long time. According to Director Patrick Brown, the performance of this super talented young actress in IF THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WIFE could very well surpass what she delivered in LADIES OF THE NIGHT. So patrons should be in for another theatrical treat.
As has been happening in recent Jambiz productions, award winning director Trevor Nairne shares the directing responsibilities here with Brown. Nairne is also responsible for designs for the production – covering set, furniture, costumes, light and sound.
Internationally reknown furnisher suppliers SINGER has kindly lent its support to the Jambiz Team in recognition of the tremendous work they have been delivering over the years. SINGER comes onboard this year as official furnishers to the production.
The story of IF THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WIFE revolves around country bumpkin Abraham Adams (Glen “Titus” Campbell), a barely literate yam-farmer from deep, deep, deep rural Jamaica. Abe is a loner … since his ex dished him dirt. His social life and prospects for a companion are non-existent … until fortune suddenly smiles on him, leaving him a massive inheritance.
One of the preconditions to claiming his largesse is that he has to be married. This pulls several lecherous wannabes out of the woodwork, eager to win the affection of an unsuspecting Abe. The lengths to which they are prepared to go sets up a scenario loaded with comedic twists and turns. IF THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WIFE also features the talents of Sakina Deer, Sharee McDonald-Russell & Courtney Wilson.
After its Boxing Day opening IF THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WIFE will embark on its usual run at Centerstage – playing Tuesdays to Fridays at 8pm and on Saturdays and Sundays at 5pm and 8pm.
