The Jamaican Civic and Cultural Association of Rockland, Inc. (JAMCCAR) will host the Hon. Herman G. LaMont, Consul General of Jamaica in New York, at its monthly meeting on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held at the Spring Valley Youth Bureau, Louis Kurtz Civic Center, 9 North Main Street, Spring Valley, New York. The consul general will hold a Town Hall style meeting to share information and answer questions about the role and responsibilities of his office. He will also share updates on recent developments in Jamaica. Come prepared with your questions for the consul-general. We will also kick off JAMCCAR’s annual membership drive for new members and renewals. The evening will end with networking, fellowship and refreshments hosted by the Hospitality committee.  Please share with media, family and friends and help to ensure a great turnout for what is bound to be a wonderful event for adults and youth.

JAMCCAR’s President Millicent Johnson-James, said, “We are really looking forward to hosting the consul-general for our first meeting of the New Year. Although he has been in his post for less than a year, he is no stranger to JAMCCAR.  He was our speaker at our Independence Gala last August. As Jamaica’s ninth consul general to New York City, with responsibility for Jamaicans in 33 states, Bermuda and Puerto Rico, the range of his job seems rather daunting. We are thrilled that he is making time in his very busy schedule to visit with us in Rockland.  I urge all Jamaicans and Friends to come out for the meeting and show the consul general how much we appreciate his visit.”

JAMCCAR, Inc. is a non-profit, community organization with a mission of fostering good relations with Jamaican-Americans and friends in the metropolitan area, with the purpose of promoting the civic, economic, and cultural aspects of the Jamaican, Caribbean, and Pan-African cultures.
