As the sunny island of Jamaica celebrates its 44th year of independence, Jamaicans from across the GTA will be joined by other ethnic groups in a fun-filled, family oriented day of festivities.
Independence or National Days are perhaps the most important days for a country to commemorate as a time of international recognition and celebration. Jamaica gained it’s independence on August 6, 1962 and this is celebrated by it’s natives across the world.
Toronto’s “Jamaica Day” festival is one such event that marks this significant milestone for the past fifteen years. As part of Jamaica’s deeply-rooted religious belief and faith, the planning committee of this cultural event has extended this celebration from a one day event to a two days event with the second day being dedicated to the “Faith Based” community.
When the gates swing open on Sunday July 30th, at high noon, at Keelesdale Park, music, fun, laughter and the aroma of Jamaican cuisine will fill the air at “JAM FI JESUS”.
JAM FI JESUS is a highly spiritual and musical festival and will bring to the forefront, some of the best of Jamaica’s gospel artists who have made their mark on the international market. The message of these world-class gospel luminaries goes beyond cultural, religious and ethnic barriers as some maintain their roots, as residence of their native land and others as immigrants through their constant cultural practices.
Former dance-hall icon; Lt. Stitchie (now Minister. Stitchie) will add his intellectual and electrifying wit to the star studded line up of gospel greats. The soulful George Banton, the reggearised Kay Morris, along with the jazzy sounds of Jassette Haughton, coupled with the high spirited Hear- to-Heart among others, will all embellish the day’s festival.
The comedic; Minister. Goddy Goddy from Jamaica, who recently survived major surgery to remove a tumor in his head, will also take centre stage. The talented and skillful Essence of Praise (EOP) will provide timely musical accompaniment to the line up of artist.
Excellence is being displayed in the staging of this event as Toronto’s dynamic duo; Bro. Gee from CIUT 89.5FM and Markland “Action” Edwards of ACTION Unlimited will MC the event. The team of experts responsible for the production and promotion of this electrifying event are Bro. Gee, Markland Edwards, Michelle Forbes and Rose Jackson of Vision Links Promotions will ensure that smooth delivery of each stage act.
