Nov. 23, 2005 – Jamaica basketball national representative and Cedarville University forward Mugabe Thomas (Hydel High School) is the American Mideast Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week. Thomas picked up where he left off last season with impressive early season performances to help the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets to a 4-1 record. The 6-foot-4 senior, exploded for career-highs of 30 points and 20 rebounds in an 82-57 win versus Saint Vincent. He came back with 23 points and 15 boards during a 75-61 victory against No. 12 Seton Hill by shooting 53 percent from the field and 62 percent at the charity stripe. On Tuesday he continued his scoring assault with a career-high 32 points, and grabbed 13 rebounds against Malone College of Canton, Ohio thereby extending his double-double streak to four. The 6’ 4” senior made 13 of 17 shots from the field (5 of 9 from three-point range) and sank his only free throw attempt.
Thomas averaged 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds last season while leading the country with 25 double-doubles. He was appropriately rewarded with a place on the NAIA All-American Second Team.
