JAMPRO SENIOR EXECUTIVES RECEIVE INTERNATIONAL APPOINTMENTS

Kingston, November 15 The Chairman of the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), Joseph A. Matalon is proud to announce that two members of his senior executive team, Patricia R. Francis and Veniece Pottinger have been offered senior positions in international trade organisations.

President, Patricia Francis has been appointed Executive Director of the International Trade Centre (ITC), the joint technical cooperation of UNCTAD and WTO for business aspects of trade development effective June 1, 2006, initially for three years.

A release from the ITC stated “Mrs. Francis will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to ITC and her many years of work on the development dimension of trade and investment, both for her own country and for other developing nations, will be invaluable for ITC.” Mrs. Francis was selected from 11 candidates across the world and significantly was the only Caribbean national and only on the list.

Mrs. Francis has been President of JAMPRO for just over ten years and led the team which earned JAMPRO the World Trade Promotion Organisation (WTPO) award for the “Best Trade Promotion Agency for a Small Country.” She also served as president of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) for four years.

Mrs. Veniece Pottinger – former deputy president, has been appointed Assistant Secretary General, Head of the Department of Development Finance and Intra-ACP Programming with the African Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) Secretariat in Brussels.

She will take up the position in December 2005. Mrs. Pottinger has been at JAMPRO since its inception back in 1989 and was part of the Jamaica National Investment Promotion (JNIP) and Jamaica National Export Corporation (JNEC); which subsequently merged to form JAMPRO.

She served in several capacities including Export Manager, Executive Director of Services and more recently Deputy President.

Mr. Matalon in making the announcement says “The international community is clearly recognising the efforts and performance of JAMPRO and its staff for the quality of work they have and continue to produce.”

Mr. Matalon has also stated that the organisation is prepared for these changes and a successor to Mrs. Pottinger will be announced shortly. “The organisation feels confident that the quality of applicants already received for the deputy president position is in line with what the organisation requires to maintain the standard of its executive team,” the chairman noted.

The chairman has also indicated that he has received sufficient notice from the outgoing president to find a suitable candidate.

“JAMPRO is proud to have been associated with both ladies and I would want to wish them all the best in their new career path,” the Chairman explained.
