Jamaica’s Police Commissioner to meet with Jamaican Diaspora in South Florida – June 15th, 2007 , Miramar, Florida

Jamaica’s Commissioner of Police, Lucius Thomas will meet with the Jamaican Diaspora in South Florida at a town hall meeting on Friday (June 15), at 6 p.m., at the Miramar City Hall, where he will address the issue of crime and violence in Jamaica, and current plans in place to alleviate the problem.So far, the Government continues its efforts in crime reduction and eradicating the problems of drug trafficking and other types of organized crime by intensifying its law enforcement efforts and working closely with international partners in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States.On the other hand, Jamaica’s international partners continue to provide equipment, technical assistance and training in areas of law enforcement.Commissioner Thomas will also be the guest speaker at the annual fund raising and scholarship awards banquet of the Jamaica Ex-Police Association, Florida chapter, to be held on Saturday (June 16) at the Hilton Airport Hotel in Dania. Meanwhile, members of the Association recently completed refurbishing and renovation of the Richmond Hill Police Station in St. Mary, at a cost of $3,000 (US). General renovation work was completed in painting the building, plumbing, masonry and carpentry as well as installation of new equipment.This is the fourth annual restoration effort to be undertaken by the members of the Jamaica Ex-Police Association, Florida chapter. Clean-up work has already been done at the stations in Four Paths, Clarendon; Lucea, Hanover, and Ocho Rios in St. Ann.
