JCDC Brings Visual Arts F.E.A.S.T to Mandeville, April 12th, 2014, Manchester

The launch of the Jamaica Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition Travelling Showcase, organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an agency of the Ministry of Youth & Culture will take place on Saturday, April 12. The Launch event, F.E.AS.T “Flavourful Entertainment and Art Sweeten to Taste” will be held at the Bloomfield Great House, 8 Perth Road, Mandeville, Manchester at 5:00 p.m.

According to JCDC Visual Arts Specialist, Sana Rose-Savage, “We are looking forward to an exciting launch as we fuse art with entertainment to create a true evening of celebrating and participating in the arts. She further stated that, “the exhibition, which is the main course, is a display of mind-blowing talent and the depths of the imagination”.  

The highest awarded visual arts pieces from the 2013 Competition will be on display.  These items include over 80 award-winning paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, ceramics and other works from amateur and professional Jamaican artists. “JCDC is proud to showcase such talent and invites everyone in and around Manchester to feast their eyes and minds on the creativity of Jamaica’s artists of all ages,” Rose-Savage added.

While viewing the exhibition members of the public are invited to showcase their creative skills by participating in art-making activities to create handmade toys on-site. These items will be given to the Child Development Agency for distribution in the Government-owned Child Care facilities.

Entertainment will be provided by a team of dynamic performers including the Lines Dance Institute headed by Jihan Cooke, songstress, Tanice Morrison, Artist, Sebastian Elliott and a fashion show by the Edna Manley College.

Following the launch, the exhibition will be opened to the public from Monday, April 14 to Friday, April 25, 2014. Opening hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. The exhibition will be closed April 18, 19 & 21 for the Easter Holiday.  Individuals, schools and other groups are welcomed.  Admission is Free.
