Monday, July 8 is the new deadline for entries in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Jamaica Creative Writing Competition. The competition has been capturing Jamaican Literary expressions since 1963 and encourages amateur and professional writers to sharpen their writing skills in Standard English and Jamaican Dialect. Entrants are encouraged to submit Poems, Essays, Short Stories, Plays and other literary works annually that reflect Jamaican situations and experiences in their content and creative works.
The outstanding works will be awarded certificate of merits, medals, trophies and other prizes. These will also be taken on an islandwide exhibition tour; so that others members of the public can benefit from the award winning works.
Anniversary Essays
As part of the JCDC 50th anniversary, persons are invited to submit a special essay as part of the celebration. The essay is to be written on the theme “The JCDC Celebrating Cultural Excellence through Perseveration and Innovation”. The essay should be between 3000-5000 words and participants are judged and awarded according to class: Juniors (7-12 years old), Intermediate (13-17 years old), Adult (18 years and older) and Senior Citizens. Persons are asked to submit their works via email to [email protected] and three (3) hard copies to any JCDC Parish Office Islandwide.
