For years, the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) has been unearthing, developing and showcasing the culinary talents of Jamaicans and as it stages the 2014 Festival of Foods Show on Friday, June 13, the Commission is promising a ‘flavourful’ and ‘tasty’ Showcase.
This year’s Showcase for the central region will be held at The Village in the May Pen Town Centre, Clarendon starting at 10:00 a.m. featuring food displays, live cooking competitions, celebrity cook-off, napkin folding demonstrations and table setting competitions. There will be a live outside broadcast with ‘Miss Kitty’ from Nationwide 90 FM at 2 p.m.
According to JCDC Culinary Specialist, Patrice Campbell, “persons can anticipate a wholesome family event. We are expecting a great Showcase as the contestants have been exposed to a series of development workshops which have sharpened their culinary creativity and skills and which will definitely boost the quality of the competition. The contestants will be using local foods by combining them in attractive ways while displaying a spirit of excellence and professionalism.”
Admission is free and the public is invited to come and enjoy prize giveaways, samplings and entertainment as the gold medalists from the central region compete for top prizes and awards from sponsors which include Grace Foods, Betty Condensed Milk, Maggi Seasoning, P.A. Bejamins and Tastee Cheese.
The second Festival of Foods Showcase will culminate on Friday, June 20 in the northern region at the Anglican Church Hall in Port Maria, St. Mary.
