JCDC Selects Children Gospel Song Finalists

Some of the nation’s most talented children were on show at the recently held JCDC Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song Semi-final Concert on Sunday, April 13 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre. This was held under the theme: “Blessed to be a Blessing”.

Patrons were captivated by the voices of these children as they ministered.  Ten year old Erica Lumsdem from St. Mary had the patrons on their feet singing with her rendition of “Bridge Over Trouble Water”. Other soul thrilling performances were done by the choirs, ensembles and soloists in the 6-10 year old and 11-15 year old categories representing various communities, schools and churches across the island.

After a nail-biting finish, the 24 finalists were selected to compete at the National final set for May 25 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre. The Competition is Jamaica’s premier gospel contest for children, and continues to provide a stage for talent development and inspiration even after its inception more than 10 years ago.

The finalists will now participate in Creative Worship at two selected Child Care Facilities during the month of May. These children workshops will be conducted by children under the guidance of their teachers in areas such as speech, drama, dance and music. The goals of workshop are to engender leadership in the children trainers, to encourage others to believe that they too can achieve in these areas, to encourage new entrants in the competitions and to encourage the spirit of community and that of giving of self to others.

The competition is sponsored by Grace Tropical Rhythms, Grace Frankfurters, Tastee Cheese, Excelsior, LOVE 101FM, TBC Radio, NCU Radio and Gospel Ja.
