In celebrating 50 years of Cultural Excellence, the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) continues its mandate to enhance national development through cultural practices by creating opportunities that unearth, develop, preserve and promote the creative talents and expressions of our people. This is evident in the continuation of the World Reggae Dance Championship Eliminations that will be held at the Sean Lavery Faith Hall, Sav-La-Mar on Friday, June 7 starting at 4:00 p.m.
The participants will vie for a chance to compete in the National Championships which will allow them to showcase their talent both locally and internationally. Prizes for the National Championship includes a return trip to Japan, over two (2) million in cash and prizes, trophies and others items.
The other eliminations will be held on Friday, June 14 at the Ocean Village, Shopping Centre, St. Ann, Friday, June 21 in Kingston at the Chinese Benevolent Association and Friday June 28 in St. Elizabeth at Santa Plaza, Santa Cruz starting at 4:00 pm. The national championship will be held on Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre starting at 8:00 p.m.
The Championship is open to dance groups of 3 to 6 persons, 16 years of age and older, residing in and outside of Jamaica. Entries are welcomed in the categories of Roots Reggae, Dancehall, Reggae Contemporary/Classic, Reggae Dancehall and Dance Narrative.
Entry form for the 2013 competition is available online at www.jcdc.gov.jm, JCDC Head Office located at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10 and all JCDC parish offices island-wide. The forms can be dropped off at any JCDC Parish Office or taken to the elimination shows.
