JECF To Benefit From Ny Independence Ball Proceeds

NEW YORK (JIS)  – The recently formed Jamaica Early Childhood Foundation is to benefit from proceeds from the Independence Anniversary Ball which was held at the New York Hilton Hotel & Towers in New York City on Saturday, August 16, 2008

Addressing an audience of Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica at the Independence Anniversary Gala, Mrs. Lorna Golding, wife of PM Bruce Golding and Chair of the Foundation said that emphasis will be placed on the total empowerment and development of children, especially those at risk.

“I am inviting you, the Jamaican Diaspora here in NY and around the world to become more involved in supporting our children, so that they will have equal opportunities to develop their full potential and contribute positively to the development of our country and excel in the global economy,” Mrs. Golding said.

Mrs. Golding told the audience that as part of the Government’s bold new approach to universal education, the Ministry of Education was finalizing plans for the launch of the Jamaica Education Trust.

She said that against the background of the 46th Anniversary of Independence and the world record breaking performance of sprint phenom, Usain Bolt at the Olympic Games in China, Jamaicans overseas must recommit to the fulfillment of our true spirit of hope, hard work, pride and prosperity.

“While we have made great strides, there are still areas on which we can improve. One such area is in the growth and development of our young children,” she noted, adding that the Foundation will provide resources and improves services for all Jamaican children regardless of their background.

Mrs. Golding was a special guest of the Jamaica Independence Anniversary Committee (JIAC), organizers of the annual Independence gala which has donated to a number of charities in the USA and Jamaica

The Independence Anniversary Ball climaxed two weeks of events for Jamaicans in the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The Bare Essentials Band with Richie Stephens and Sheila Hylton provided entertainment.
