Chief of Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Major General Stewart Saunders, and Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington, today (May 30) toured operational areas in West Kingston, to view firsthand, the aftermath of the joint police/military operation.

Major General Saunders, who spoke to JIS News, said that the tour was intended to canvass the views of citizens and direct them to the facilities put in place through which they can register grouses and receive assistance.

An office of the Public Defender has been set up at the Tivoli Gardens community centre to hear complaints from aggrieved residents.

Some of the residents seemed relieved and expressed joy at seeing the touring party and showed the JCF and JDF heads, the damage that had been done to their properties.

Commissioner Ellington urged them to lodge all complaints to the office of the Public Defender.

In the meantime, JDF Major Kevron Henry, who led the tour, pointed out trapdoors, turrets, tunnels, sandbags and barbed-wire barricades, which marked several areas, including Coke’s ‘Presidential Click’ building located in the heart of Tivoli Gardens.

The office was in shambles, with several pictures strewn about including some of Lester Lloyd Coke “Jim Brown”, father of Christopher Coke.

Copies of DVDs also dotted the floor, with titles such as ‘Rambo’ ‘Killer Kid’ and a variety of karate movies.

Outside, members of the security forces stood guard while citizens, mostly women and children milled about.
