JOB TITLE: Commercial Judge – Commercial Division of the High Court, Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court

LOCATION:  Judicial & Legal Services Commission, Place of Residence: Tortola, British Virgin Islands

DESCRIPTION: To be the Presiding Judge of the Commercial Division of the High Court established in 2009 and recognized as a world-class commercial court sited in British Virgin Islands but applicable to all the six sovereign States and three UK Overseas Territories which comprise the judicial jurisdiction of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States; To assist the Chairman of the Judicial Education Institute of the Supreme Court with designing and organizing judicial education programs for judges of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court relevant to the conduct of commercial litigation; To be responsible for the training of staff of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court; To ensure the smooth succession of Judges of the High Court to further the work of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court at the end of the contract period; To assist the Chief Justice with the evolution and implementation of a succession plan for Judges of the High Court to take over the leadership of the Commercial Division. To undertake such other relevant duties as may from time to time be directed by the Chief Justice.

QUALIFICATIONS: Possess at least ten (10) years experience as a Judge in a Court within the Commonwealth which has Civil jurisdiction in cross-border or International Commercial cases OR at least five (5) years experience as a Judge in a specialized court dealing with such cases OR At least ten (10) years practice as a leading Attorney at Law specializing in Litigation involving cross border or International Commercial cases.    Practical knowledge of Court Administration and Alternative Dispute Resolution Procedures would be a strong advantage.
