LOCATION: North East Regional Health Authority, Portland
DESCRIPTION: Responsible for giving in-depth nursing care to adolescents and adult family members and performing specific services of medical nature; Formulating objectives for the care of the patient/family; Interviewing patients and/or other family members in order to obtain a health history; Completing a comprehensive physical examination including developmental assessment; Observing and analyzing signs and symptoms; Demonstrating advanced technique in the management of selected chronic illnesses and psychosocial conditions; Consulting with physician when in doubt and in situations beyond the scope of his/her practice; Prescribing treatment and management of a nursing and/or medical nature; Acting as clinical teacher, and/or field guide to basic and post basic students; Interpreting selected diagnostic tests; Cooperating and collaborating with health allied agencies in providing health care; Coordinating and supervising the clinical experience of prospective Family Nurse Practitioners.
QUALIFICATIONS: Registered General Nurse; Certified Midwife (or acceptable alternative); Successful completion of Nurse Practitioner Course (1 year); Minimum of five (5) years post-registration practice in public health/community nursing or other forms of nursing in the community setting outside of the hospital/medical centre; Demonstrated clinical nursing interest and competence in the practice of nursing.
