JOB TITLE: Forest Rangers – Level 4 (Two positions)
LOCATION: Forestry Department, Kingston
DESCRIPTION: Responsible for ensuring the prevention, detection, control and mitigation of illegal and impermissible activities on Forest Reserves, Forest Management Areas and all Crown Lands managed by the Agency in accordance with the provisions of the Forest Act, Forest Regulations, and other applicable forest related natural resource and environmental legislation; Patrolling lands managed by the Agency in accordance with patrolling plans, work plans and itineraries provided; Detecting all offences committed against the Forest Act and/or Forest Regulations within the area of assignment and assists with subsequent investigation to curtail and resolve the illegal activities as appropriate under the legislation; Attending court hearings, as required, to give evidence in connection with offences detected and/or investigated; Monitoring the activities of unauthorized persons on the lands managed by the Agency to prevent squatting and other illegal activities; Interfacing with representatives of the local community within his/her assigned area in order to encourage, develop and maintain the community’s interest in conserving and protecting the environment
QUALIFICATIONS: A.Sc. Degree in Criminal Justice, Environmental or Agricultural Science or related area; One (1) year field experience; Must own a reliable motor vehicle that can traverse the hilly terrains of the forest areas.
