JOB TITLE: General Counsel

LOCATION: General Legal Council, Kingston

DESCRIPTION: Responsible for providing legal advice and support to the General Legal Council and the Disciplinary Committee; Advise the Council and members of the public in relation to issues arising under the Legal Profession Act and the regulations and rules made under the Act; Liaise with attorneys representing the General Legal Council and its Disciplinary Committee in court proceedings; Occasionally appear on behalf of the General Legal Council and its Disciplinary Committee in court proceedings; Advise and assist complainants with the formulation of their complaints.

QUALIFICATIONS: Attorney at law in practice for at least five (5) years; Experience in civil litigation; Proficiency with general computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office; Experience in a management or supervisory position would be an advantage; Sound organizational and managerial abilities; Superior written, oral and inter-personal skills; Strong ethical skills and a high degree of professionalism; Possess a high regard for confidentiality when dealing with sensitive issues; Able to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
