DESCRIPTION: Tropical Medicine Research Institute Sickle Cell Unit (SCU); Monitoring of standards and quality of clinical care for all the patient groups; Ensuring that clinical care standards and practices are reviewed periodically and kept up to date whether from Institute research findings or the literature; Supervising clinical staff of the Institute to achieve quality services as well as their participation in research; Working with the Institute and Unit Directors to integrate clinical services into the Institute’s Research Program; Assisting in the delivery of clinical care to persons with Sickle Cell Disease at the Sickle Cell Unit as this unit has the largest clinical load with ~ 12,000 patient visits per year; Coordinate clinical electives for health care professionals who desire to do electives at the Institute; Participating in the clinical teaching mission of the Institute; Representing the clinical interests of the Institute to external stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health, University Hospital and other professional bodies.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a MBBS Degree with Postgraduate training in an area of medical specialty. Preference will be given to persons with postgraduate training in Hematology, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine; Experience and/or training in epidemiology or public health will be an asset; Ten (10) years professional working experience, at least three (3) years of which should be in the care and management of Sickle Cell Disease.
