JOB TITLE: Human Rights Consultant – Rights Awareness Program

LOCATION:  British Council, Jamaica

DESCRIPTION: Working with the Rights Awareness Program being implemented in Jamaica; Increased awareness and understanding by citizens of their rights and duties; Strengthened institutional and operational capacity of civil society organizations; Increased accessibility to direct funding for advocacy and awareness-rising by youth; Play a pivotal role in framing the integration of the project into the Jamaican context and society as means of ensuring that RAP adds value and achieves its objectives; Interactions with Civil Society Organizations; Documentation Review and Legislative Assessment; Providing expert advice and support during the implementation of the project; Position and Concept paper; Engaging in collaborative work with the members of the project team, project trainers, researchers and other consultants/partners connected to the project. The consultancy will be for a period of twelve (12) months.

QUALIFICATIONS: An advanced degree in human rights, political science, law or a combination of professional training and certification; A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience – preferably but not exclusively in Jamaica and/or the Caribbean; A comprehensive and in-depth expertise in development, human rights, democracy, project implementation and research assessment; Experience working with a wide spectrum of civil society groupings and youth; Strong written and oral communication skills, demonstrated ability of making effective presentations to diverse audiences.
