DESCRIPTION: Draft civil legal documents on instructions from Government Departments in a timely manner; Provide detailed legal opinions on complex civil matters; Provide assistance and guidance in the conduct and progress of matters; To advise H.E. the Governor and Ministries on, inter alia, matters of administrative and constitutional law and disciplinary proceedings under the Public Service Commission Regulations; Advise government on and provide assistance in execution of civil Letters Rogatory and other matters of International Co-operation; Draft, review and advise on major contracts (construction, architect, engineering, management, consultancy and management) and commercial agreements; To liaise with other Counsel on matters affecting the Chambers as a unit, and to ensure familiarity with major matters involving the Chambers; To perform the functions set out above in a manner which exemplifies the required knowledge and skills set herein mentioned and to thereafter maintain a system of accountability for legal and related services in a manner prescribed by the Attorney General; To report to and be accountable to the Attorney General through the Solicitor General for all matters here in above listed
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Laws Degree; Legal Practitioner’s Certificate, which will enable admission to practice in the BVI; 7 years Post Qualification Experience; Post-graduate specialization in any area of civil, commercial, or international law would be a distinct advantage; The ability to master and interpret complex legislation; Practical knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules of the BVI jurisdiction; Sound knowledge of Constitutional and Administrative Law; Sound Negotiating and related skills; Must have a keen eye for detail, developed capacity to work with criticism, and be time as well as deliverables driven.
