JOB TITLE: Train Controller

LOCATION:  Noranda Bauxite Limited, Kingston

DESCRIPTION: Responsible for monitoring the movement and safe operations of trains between the loading and unloading areas at the Plant and Mines; Dispatches trains to and from Mines load out area; signals loco operators to begin train runs, stop trains, or change speed; Maintains train control log: Records departure, arrival and stop/idle times. Maintains accurate records of locomotive strings, train cycle times and the contents/quantity of each trip; Receives information regarding train or rail problems from locomotive operators or from electronic monitoring devices and report them to supervisor/maintenance; Directs and instructs workers engaged in yard activities, such as switching tracks and shunting cars; Operates controls to activate track switches and traffic signals; Ensures that cars are added or removed at proper points on routes.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of railway signal systems; Understanding of railway terms and radio transmitter operating protocols; Proficient computer skills, including the ability to work between two or three different computer programs and screens at one time; Use of Microsoft Office – Excel (spreadsheet), and Word (word processing); Vocational or Tertiary level Diploma in technical discipline PLUS two (2) years work experience; Knowledge of railroading systems
