Location: University of the West Indies, Mona

Description: To provide assistance to the Program Director of the Dentistry Program by carrying out the duties attendant to the dental laboratory education & training of students enrolled in undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing education courses in the Faculty; Assist the Program Director with the formulation and grading of dental laboratory technology procedures examinations; Efficiently operate laboratory equipment such as drills, presses, lathes and high heat furnaces for creating prosthetic devices; Test appliances for conformance to specifications and accuracy of occlusion, using articulators, micrometers and other measuring devices; Use molds as replica of teeth to construct educational models, crowns, bridges and other dental prosthetic appliances; Prepare metal surfaces for bonding with porcelain to create artificial teeth, using small hand tools; Build and shape models of patients dentition and jaws on which metal frameworks will be waxed and cast to make prosthetic devices; Train and supervise other dental technicians or dental laboratory bench workers; Compile and prepare confidential documents for the Program Director; Assist with the promotion of faculty matters and events; Liaise with adjunct staff, students and external clients as required; Monitor the use of dental laboratory equipment and ensuring their repair and maintenance; Monitor the use of dental laboratory materials and supplies

Qualifications: An undergraduate degree in Dental Laboratory Technology; Post-graduate certification in Dental Laboratory Technology; Registered with the Dental Council of Jamaica; A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a dental laboratory; Working knowledge of dental/medical device/supply terminology, excellent language skills; Ability to supervise and direct students; Knowledge of computer applications relevant to the needs of the Faculty such as Microsoft Office Suite including desktop publishing and database management; Excellent administrative, organizational and time management skills; Excellent interpersonal and client service skills with a willingness to undertake a wide variety of roles, shift functions and be flexible with respect to job function; Persons should also have good vision, good manual dexterity and demonstrate an artistic aptitude for detailed and precise work; NB: Submit an application letter along with their curriculum vitae giving full particulars of qualifications, experience, names and contact information for three references.
