We are now inviting all Jamaican youths who are aged between 18-24 and who are passionate about making a positive difference both here in the UK and at home in Jamaica to join the JDYA(UK) association and make your voices heard.
What is the JDYA (UK)
The JDYA (UK) is a youth arm of the Jamaican Diaspora within the UK. It has been launched recently ( April 13th 2007) amongst youths who are very dynamic, creative, enthusiastic and most importantly very patriotic about Jamaica. These youths are from regions right across the UK.
The Motto: “Youths in action – Empowering young Jamaicans”
The Aim: The JDYA (UK) aims to promote and protect the interests and concerns of Jamaican Youths at home and abroad.
The Objectives:
- To promote Jamaican history and culture amongst youths and the wider community.
- To promote Jamaica and Jamaicans in a positive way.
- To facilitate networking among young Jamaicans at home and abroad.
- To liaise with individuals, organisations and groups.
- To establish mentoring and buddy schemes.
- To promote and support Jamaican family values.
- To actively lobby on relevant issues that relate to Jamaicans (youths).
- To promote youth exchanges.
- To promote sports and activities’ centres for Jamaican youths.
Organisational Structure
Presently, an interim structure has been established as we are still few in numbers and is therefore not a true representative of the Jamaican Youth Community within the UK.
The youths have also agreed that in the future a National and 6 Regional structures be established which will comprise of young people who will work closely along with facilitators and advisors from the Jamaican Diaspora UK.
Conference- June 16th 2007 – Midlands
We are also extending an invitation to all youths within the UK to join us at the conference where we will be facilitating our own workshop entitled, “Youths in Action- Empowering young Jamaicans”.
There will be a motivational talk about “Empowering our Youths” and our special guest speaker will be this year’s Festival Queen Winner from Jamaica who will speak about “Our Culture and what truly makes us Jamaican”.
