Jamaica Organization Of New Jersey (JON-J) 7th Annual Award Of Excellence Honorees Announced – November 3rd, 2007 New Jersey

Newark, NJ, October 12: The Jamaica Organization of New Jersey (JON-J), a not for profit organization will be hosting its 7th Annual Award of Excellence dinner & dance gala on Saturday November 3 at the Double Tree Hotel, 1000 Spring Street, Elizabeth, NJ. The black tie ritzy event begins at 8:00 PM with cocktails and the theme of this year’s event is “From Strangers to Citizens”.

The awardees are drawn from a wide cross-section of individuals in the state of New Jersey who have demonstrated excellence in their various endeavors, and who have contributed significantly to the development of the Jamaican and world communities. The keynote speaker for this year’s event is the Hon. Dr. Barbara Gloudon, O.J., distinguished radio host, folklorist, columnist, playwright and communications consultant. “This is a time when we pay tribute to the finest in our communities”, JON-J president Linval James commented. “Jamaicans typically support the gala in a big way, cognizant of the fact that service to humanity is the best work in life”, he continued. MEDIA & MARKETING Mr. Dave Rodney- Independent Marketing Consultant
LEGAL Hon. Richard Nunes
LEADERSHIP Mr. Lawrence Hamm- President, POP
MEDICAL Ms. Hyacinth Simmonds, RN
SPORTS Mr. Dorian Scott, Champion Shot Putter Additionally, five book scholarships will be presented to high achieving students in the state. The 2007 scholarship winners are Anaida Elysee, Leslie Gentles, Serena Connolly, Dwight Jones, Lori Lewis and Vaughn Stewart. Ticket prices are $125 per person, $220 per couple and $1150 for a table or ten. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund scholarships as well as to underwrite relief shipping costs to Jamaica.
