As the outpouring of assistance continues to come from all across Jamaica for Haiti, another corporate company has joined the long list of donors to the Help Haiti effort.
On Monday (Jan.18) Juici Patties made its donation to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) to go toward the relief efforts in the earthquake-devastated island.
In handing over the supplies, which included pastry and bottled water, Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator at Juici Patties, Jacqueline Scott-Perry, lauded Jamaicans for pulling together to help Haiti, despite their own economic situation.
“As an immediate response to the situation in Haiti, we have partnered with one of our preferred beverage partners, Pepsi Cola Jamaica, and we are donating 300 cases of bottled water along with a quantity of our products in the form of sweet pastry. We are hoping that over the next five or six months to give an ongoing systematic contribution,” said Mrs. Scott-Perry. She commended the ODPEM for its ongoing work.
Deputy Director General of the ODPEM, Richard Thompson thanked Juici Beef and Pepsi for its donations, and lauded citizens for their voluntary spirit. “The outpouring of support for our brothers and sisters in Haiti – when you look at the number of volunteers we had over the weekend, it is marvellous. It is amazing that what will bring people together is disaster,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the ODPEM is still in need of more barrels and tape to continue to package supplies for Haiti.
Jamaica is the sub-regional focal point for the coordination of the regional response, for the CARICOM/Haiti operations, and the Office of the Prime Minister has mandated the ODPEM to be the central coordinating agency in Jamaica for all relief supplies.
