The reggaeton-flavored anthem of perseverance got its world premiere on Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Radio on SiriusXM last night, just moments after Julian took the stage half-way around the globe to perform at the FIFA Fan Festival at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Showing that he is no stranger to adversity, Julian’s inspirational lyrics rang out over the airwaves of the satellite radio station channel that bears his father’s name:

Nuh matta how ruff the road
We’re still in control
Nuh matta the heavy load
These wheels gon’ roll

The single release was accompanied by an official video, filmed partially at Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, and partially at Sierra Studios in Antaeus’ native Greece. The new visuals, which feature an empowered performance by JuJu with the state-of-the-art Tuff Gong Studio serving as his backdrop, premiered on the Monom Records YouTube channel today.

“It’s time for progression and moving forward,” offered Marley. “‘Roll’ is a song about taking control no matter how tough things get.”

“Roll” marks the second single release from Marley and Antaeus. The musical duo collaborated earlier this year for their updated take on the classic reggae song “The Tide Is High,” which they soon followed with a 4-track EP full of remixes, including a Deep House Remix, a Deep House Dub, the original mix, and a Chill House remix by Burundi-based producer/remixer Takinio Soul.

“‘Roll’ is a strong song, a ‘big chune’ as we say in Jamaica, that will take many by surprise,” says Monom Records chief Alexx Antaeus, who splits his time between Kingston and New York City. He added, “a country guitar intro, leads to a reggaeton groove, only to be hurled to a higher level by Julian’s reggae vocals.” The two are now putting the final touches on the upcoming EP titled Colors of JuJu, which is slated for a February 2023 release.

British-born Julian “JuJu” Marley is the son of Jamaican musical icon Bob Marley and Barbadian mom Lucy Pounder. Julian is a roots-reggae musician, singer-songwriter, producer, and humanitarian. “Roll” and “The Tide Is High” follow Julian’s 2019 Grammy-nominated album, As I Am, which scored millions of streams worldwide, and features collaborations with Jamaican superstars like Shaggy, Beenie Man, Spragga Benz, and Addis Pablo.
