Their fourth broadcast tour to the USA – Broadcasting from the Team Jamaica Bickle Village
Old Bridge, NJ – February 18, 2015 – Five (5) junior broadcasters from the KiDz HuB Media Network will take up their positions, for the 4th consecutive year, at the Team Jamaica Bickle Village in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to provide media coverage of the 121st staging of The Penn Relays Carnival 2015. The team comprises 5 broadcasters from 10 to 16 years of age from various schools in Jamaica West Indies who will be broadcasting, conducting interviews with visitors and athletes while packaging reports from the Penn Relays. The 5 will also be joined by 4 fellow junior broadcasters from the KiDz HuB North American Chapter on April 23-25, 2015.
The broadcast will be carried over several media partners across the US, the Caribbean and as far away as Australia. Orlando Dillon, Founder and Executive Director of KiDz HuB said “These Jamaican youngsters have an opportunity to be ambassadors of their country, as they collaborate and share their culture with other KiDz HuB Jr. Broadcasters in Canada, Australia, Germany, several US States and a growing number of other countries”.
This initiative is a partnership with KiDz HuB Media Network and Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB), a not-for-profit corporation based in New York State, playing an active role in the development and care of the athletes through its Hospitality Initiative which provides transportation, meals and subsidized hotel rates for athletes travelling from the Caribbean.
Mr. Clare said “It’s not just about preparing these children for a track meet or a race, it is about preparing them for life,” reiterating TJB’s overarching mission – ‘“to prepare our youth for greater service on the global stage.”
Supporters can help by making donations at fund.kidzhub.com. The campaign has a goal of $10,000 which is intended to cover airfare, ground transportation, meals, accommodation and other expenses directly related to delivering the daily broadcasts. In addition, the junior broadcasters will be treated to a number of educational tours including a New York City tour, CBS, NBC,Times Square and Liberty Island. They will also be joining members of the KiDz HuB North American Chapter in one of their regular live radio broadcast from a Microsoft Store in the New York Tri State area.
KiDz HuB which began in 2010 has as its mission ‘To Give Youth A Global Voice.’ As a central part of their operation is their partnership with a network of media outlets and media mentors who provide training and mentorship for these youth broadcasters. The KiDz HuB program provides various media platforms, for youth to collaborate, develop to engage the world whilst empowering them with communication skills and confidence.
The Jamaican KiDz HuB broadcasters are always on the go and will be on the Red Carpet at the Youth View Awards 2015 and at the ISSA Boys and Girls Championship 2015 for the 2nd year as they prepare for coverage of The Penn Relays. Fellow ‘Hubbers’ have also covered several events across the world i.e The Nickelodeon HALO Awards 2014 in New York City, The Calgary International Film Festival 2014 in Canada and will be at the Jefferson Awards in New York on March 4th, 2015.
In 2011 when Orlando Dillon announced his intention to have a team of junior broadcasters cover the upcoming Penn Relays it appeared to be the impossible dream. However, through a successful partnership with Kandi Lee Crooks Smith, principal of Allman Town Primary School, Dr. Margarett Barnett, administrator of Portmore Missionary Preparatory and Irwine Claire, founder of Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) the project began. Since April, 2012, KiDz HuB Jr. Broadcasters are able to make their mark on this prestigious event and have interviewed many people of note, including Prime Minister of Jamaica, Honorable Portia Simpson Miller on her first visit to the Penn Relays in 2012.
This year, KiDz HuB welcomes media personality, Calibe Thompson of Blondie Ras Productions and executive producer and director of “Taste the Islands” who will mentor junior broadcasters and produce the television interviews & features for this coverage, which will be distributed on kidzhub.com and media partners including newly added Jamaicans.com.
KiDz HuB is inviting all to join in helping to continue this partnership by heading to live.kidzhub.com in support of the KiDz HuB Jr. Broadcast Team 2015 trip to the USA.
