Kite Festival Moves To New Home

The Jamaica International Kite Festival now at Richmond Estates has evolved out of the St. Ann Kite Festival held annually at the Seville Heritage Park adjacent to the historic Seville Great House on the outskirts of St. Ann’s Bay.

The one-day event attracts average community support in excess of 9, 000 persons and is emboldened with a kaleidoscope of colours, exciting kite flying, food, unbridled fun and clean family entertainment complimented by stage show with a solid line up of Jamaica’s top artistes.

The new venue:-The Jamaica International Kite Festival ’10 having outgrown it’s former home is scheduled to be staged at the Richmond Estate, a sprawling, well appointed and established property with beach facilities located adjacent to the North Coast highway just outside of Priory, St. Ann, approximately 9.5 kilometers in a westerly direction from tourism Mecca, Ocho Rios.

The Kite festival Village:- Richmond Estates will be transformed into an awesome kite festival village where locals as well our friends from overseas will converge to experience spectacular displays of various kites, kite flying competitions, colorful booths, and stalls reflecting the true Jamaican spirit and culture. Embodying themes of local cuisine and culture e.g. the Jerk Corner, Jelly and sugar cane as well as fashion and the performing arts with a main grand stage area.

Among the activates planned are:- Kite competitions, Marching bands, Jonkonoo, Mento bands, Horseback riding and kiddies village — Train rides, Face painting, Slides and Rock-climbing

Kite Attractions:- Best school kite, Beauty in the air, Fighting kites, Funniest Kite, Smallest kite, Longest tail, Most innovative, Best ground display, Best of the Festival (spectators choice), Wittiest, Patriotic and Hot tricks.

Kite awards:- Competitors’ choice award (competitors vote for one another), People’s Choice award, Kite maker award, Children’s award and Individual category awards.
