The sixth and final leg of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics in the Caribbean kicked off today at the Football House on Lozack Road, Basseterre, St. Kitts.

At the press conference to launch the Digicel Kick Start Clinics in St. Kitts, Head Coach, John Barnes, said, “I’m delighted to be back in St. Kitts. I know that the players here have lots of ability, speed and strength, but what I’m also looking for is the right attitude, desire and spirit. So while I expect to see lots of technically good players, I’ll be impressing upon them that I will be looking for all of these attributes, since this is what they will need if they are going to make it as a professional footballer.”

17 of the most talented young footballers from St. Kitts & Nevis lined out today to take part in the first day of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics. Commenting on the talent he saw, John Barnes said: “It was a good start to the Digicel Kick Start Clinics in St. Kitts – it was well organized and the players seemed to enjoy themselves. Four boys were unable to make it today due to end of term exams, so we’re hoping they can join us tomorrow for the second day of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics.”

With only four days left until Head Coach, John Barnes, unveils the eight talented young footballers he has selected to spend one week training in Sunderland AFC, Barnes shared his thoughts about making the tough decision: “I need to start getting my head around the players I saw in the other islands to make a final decision on who will make up the eight players going to Sunderland, while at the same time looking at all of the boys in the St. Kitts Digicel Kick Start Clinics.

“I will treat the final day of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics here in St. Kitts as I would in any other country. After that, I’ll narrow it down to about 14 players before making my final selection of eight footballers to travel to Sunderland AFC.”

The final announcement of the players for Sunderland AFC will be made on Saturday evening at a cocktail reception in the Marriot Hotel in St. Kitts. The Honorable Minister of Sport of St. Kitts & Nevis along with other high ranking officials of Digicel and the Caribbean Football Union will be in attendance.
