The Directors of Harmony Hall are pleased to invite you to an evening with Rachel Manley.
Tuesday, August 4, 2009, 6 – 8 pm
She will sign copies of her latest book Horses in Her Hair
An intimate portrait of the life of Edna Manley, Rachel’s two previous books (Drumblair and Slipstream) dealt with Caribbean and Jamaican politics, and the lives of political men. Horses in Her Hair is the story of Edna—her growth and evolution as an artist, and how, like the sculptor she was, she shaped the men who made the history of a nation and a region. By connecting the dots of her grandmother’s life from growing up in rural England as a white mulatto in the early 1900s, the historic events that shaped Caribbean history, and the development of her art, Rachel writes an intimate family history of a woman who greatly influenced her granddaughter and the culture of a fledgling country.
Refreshments will be served & copies of her books will be available for sale.
