Leaf Of Life Fund Features Acclaimed Jamaican Dance Troupe – July 29th, 2006

New York, NY, July 5, 2006 —Movements Dance Company of Jamaica, celebrating 25 years as one of Jamaica’s prominent performing arts troupes, will take the stage at York College in Jamaica, New York on July 29th. Sponsored by the Leaf of Life Fund for Critically-Ill Children —a not-for-profit agency supporting medical services for sick children of the Caribbean—and under the patronage of Dr. Basil Bryan, Consul General of Jamaica, NY, the performance is part of a season full of exciting activities celebrating the dance company’s 25 th anniversary, which will culminate in an annual concert in November in Jamaica.

Skillfully guided by Artistic Director, Choreographer and Communications Specialist, Monica Campbell McFarlane, C.D., Movements brings to the stage a depth of talent and the spirit of the Jamaican cultural milieu. Noted for their fresh and eclectic interpretations of modern contemporary dance fusing urban and traditional styles from Jamaica and the Diaspora, Movements uses a range of musical and cultural idioms reflecting the vast cultural fabric of Jamaica and Jamaicans.

Kicking off the festivities for Jamaica’s Independence celebrations in New York—honoring 44 years of sovereignty on August 6th— Movements Dance Company of Jamaica, in association with Leaf of Life Fund, will be performing at the York College Performing Arts Center on July 29 th at 8pm.
