Legislation To Give Public Sector Workers Access To Twickenham Park Housing Units

Cabinet has instructed the Chief Parliamentary Counsel to draft legislation to facilitate the allocation of units at the Twickenham Park Housing Development, Union Estates, St. Catherine, for distribution to public sector employees.

Employees eligible under this order are those who were once members of the Jamaica Civil Service Association and the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU), Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, explained at last week’s post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.

“A joint venture agreement was signed between the National Housing Trust and the Jamaica Civil Service Housing Company Limited and the JCTU to develop lands at Twickenham Park Housing Development in St. Catherine and the joint venture agreement was to enable public sector workers to receive preferential treatment in purchasing housing solutions in this development,” he informed.

Meanwhile, Mr. Vaz said Cabinet has approved the Bill entitled the Health and Allied Professionals and Services Miscellaneous Penalty Provision Act 2010 for introduction to the Houses of Parliament.

“The Bill seeks to increase the penalties in legislation related to certain health and allied professionals and services to more realistic levels, so as to deter persons from purporting to offer medical and support services without being properly registered or supervised by the relevant authorities, and also encourage conformity with the relevant statutory provisions,” the Information Minister said.
