MIRAMAR COMMISSIONER CANDIDATE MENTORS HIGHSCHOOL STUDENTS
MIRAMAR, FL — Leo Gilling, Candidate for the City of Miramar Commission Seat 4, has made the youth a priority and continues to do so. Gilling sits on the board of the Partners for Youth Foundation, which sponsors activities for youth empowerment in South Florida. He is also an active member of the Kiwanis club of Lauderdale Lakes, which empowers its members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children.
In Gilling’s 12-Point Manifesto, he stated he would collaborate with Miramar’s residents and local officials to develop more cultural, social, and educational opportunities for the youth. He has already begun these efforts by speaking with five teenagers on Sunday, February 10, 2019, about the importance of the campaign and their roles in the future. He has set them up with mentors in their desired career fields to provide additional guidance.
One of the teenagers Gilling met with, fourteen-year McArthur High School student Andre Springer, said, “Leo has opened new paths to success for us by teaching us how to campaign and go door to door without being afraid. He has provided us with mentors and people we can look up to for closure and to help find ways to pursue our dreams.”
Andrea Munroe-Service, a member of Gilling’s team, recalled her experience on Sunday: “I had one of the most precious times Sunday with Leo Gilling and team Leo, it was just a productive moment that bought me back to memory lane. I observed Leo counseling and empowering young adults in such a way that I was so impressed to be in his company. Although he got them to volunteer, most of our time was spent interacting and team building. He encouraged them to express their dreams and goals, then actually went on in seeking mentors for them. This was a positive and vibrant moment and shows his willingness to help and build our community. I do hope and wish others are doing the same to help folks in their community and not just using future generations only for their political gains. Thank you so much Leo, continue to be that role model for Miramar.”
