‘Lighting’ Bolt Strikes At Reebok Grand Prix In NYC, June 1, 2008

Kingston: Usain ‘Lighting’ Bolt is the new world record-holder in the Men’s 100 meters. The race took place at the new Icahn Stadium, New York City last Saturday at the fourth staging of the Reebok Grand Prix.

Bolt beat a quality field in the Digicel sponsored Men’s 100 meters event, stopping the clock at 9.72 seconds to set a new world record in front of a capacity crowd of 10,000 fans. The Jamaican superstar in now back in Jamaica and Digicel hosted a press reception in his honor.

Digicel CEO David Hunter presented Usain with a gift check in appreciation. Both coach Glen Mills and Manager Norman Peart commented on Usain’s focus. Mills also mentioned the devotion of his parents who phone Usain every single night.

Usain said Asafa Powell called to congratulate him and said “Well done! Though you’re making it harder for me now.”

Among the dignitaries who attended the press reception were (L-r) JAAA President Howard Aris, Digicel Communications Head, Yvonne Wilks, Digicel Projects Mgr Paula Pinnock-MacLeod, Usain Bolt and Consultant/Columnist Jean Lowrie-Chin.
