Lime Commemorates Years Of Support To Local Penn Relays Teams

Eighteen schools have received a total of $1.8-million from the LIME Jamaica Foundation to help with defraying the cost for them to participate in next week’s Penn Relays in the United States. Each school received $100,000. The schools also received a total of $26,000 worth of calling cards.

This is the 21st consecutive year that the Telecoms Company had provided significant financial support to the Jamaican schools participating in the event which is staged each year at the University of Pennsylvania.  At a brief handing-over function held at the LIME head office, Carlton Crescent, Errol. Miller Chairman of the LIME Foundation disclosed that:

“Every school that sought sponsorship from us has received support and they all received the same amount. We also once again provided the schools with LIME “Jus Talk” calling cards so athletes and coaches can stay in touch with their families in Jamaica,”

Mr. Miller emphasized to the students present of the importance of education as a part of this development and urged them to take their academic studies as seriously as they take sports. He reminded them that they were also ambassadors for Jamaica and that the eyes of the world would be on them they should acquit themselves accordingly.

Bruce James, President of the MVP Track and Field club, who assists with the Wolmers Boys Track team made a very touching vote of thanks on behalf of all the teams. Mr James said there was little doubt that without LIMES significant contribution, several of the teams would not be going to the Relays. He congratulated LIME for its unswerving support for the schools going to Penn Relays and added that their support this year was even more meaningful given the tough economic times all companies were experiencing. also made an appearance at the event and was generous in sharing a few words of advice to the teams preparing for this year’s Penn Relays.
