The Ardenne Alumni Association- New York Chapter held its annual Gala Awards Luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, white Plains, NY on Sunday, May 18, 2008. The event was keynoted by newly appointed Consul General of Jamaica in New York, Mrs. Geneive Brown Metzger. She used the occasion to highlight the recent setting up of the Kings House Action Committee for Medical Volunteers, a one stop clearing house mechanism under the auspicies of the Governor General, that will help to reduce and where possible eliminate much of the red tape surrounding medical missions to Jamaica. The AAA now under the presidency of and Dr. Howard Bradnock recogzined past students, Dr. Monica C. Martin and Florence Vilma Thompson-RN, for their professional achievement. The community activism award was presented to Dr. Laura Pires-Hester, wife of late Dr. Melvyn Hester, an Ardenne Alumni. Former president Merna Merchant serves as host of the ceremonies which included a command performance by master Saxophonist/Musician Dean Fraser and Christopher McDonald on keyboards. Soultone Disco with DJ Prentic provided recorded music for dancing. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the school’s science building fund.
