The six footballers from the Digicel Kick Start Clinics in Central America – who were chosen by Liverpool legend and Head Coach, Ian Rush – have arrived in Manchester for their week-long training camp at English Premier League club, Manchester City.
Kevin Melgar and Julio Segundo from Panama; Dylan Florez and Jose Alberto Mora Munoz from Costa Rica; Oscar Salas from Honduras and Kevin Mendoza from El Salvador took the 12 hour trip from Panama to Manchester.
After arriving in Manchester, the boys went straight to Manchester City’s training ground to meet the Academy’s coaches and tour the training facilities of the senior team, before returning to their hotel to get some rest ahead of tomorrow’s first training session. An action-packed week has been planned for the six boys, which will see them train under some of England’s finest football coaches.
Digicel Central America Sponsorship Manager, Vittorio Gotuzzo, who is traveling with the team, said: “On behalf of Digicel, I’d like to wish the boys the best of luck with their week in Manchester City. This training camp is a once in a lifetime opportunity for them and I hope this experience will prove beneficial in terms of improving their football skills and giving them a taste of what life as a professional footballer is like.”
Digicel Kick Start Clinics footballer, Kevin Melgar, said of his first day in Manchester: “I’m very excited about being here. This is my first time in England and it is not as cold as I had expected it to be. Meeting the coaches today and touring the senior team’s facilities was very exciting and I can’t wait to go to the Academy tomorrow for the first day of training. This is an amazing opportunity for us and I’m determined to work hard this week and learn as much as possible from this experience.”
