Jamaica Awareness Inc. in association with Jamaican Diaspora Southern U.S. presents the second annual Michael Manley Memorial Lecture – The Legacy of Michael Manley, on Friday February 10 at 7:00 p.m. The lecture will be held at the Steele Auditorium, Nova Southeastern University, 3200 S University Drive, Florida.
Founder/President of Jamaica Awareness Inc., Mr. Sydney Roberts said the lecture is being held to recognize the late Jamaican leader’s contribution to the development of Jamaica, the Caribbean and the world. He began the annual lecture series because he wanted the South Florida community to be aware of Mr. Manley’s contribution to and impact on the Caribbean region.
Last year’s inaugural lecture included a seminar during which panelists Dr. D.K. Duncan, Dr. Dudley Thompson, David Rowe and Beverly Anderson-Manley examined the impact of Michael Manley’s policies on Jamaica during his leadership and their implications for the country’s future.
The occasion brought together old party stalwarts and their views on why the policies worked or failed. This year, there will be no seminar but attendees will have former UWI Vice Chancellor, Hon. Professor Rex Nettleford, O.M. whose knowledge on the life and work of the late People’s National Party leader is second to none.
Sponsored by Air Jamaica, Ting and The Gleaner, the lecture was a requirement for students of last year’s political science class at Barry University.
This year’s specially invited guests include : Caribbean community leaders, mayors and other civic leaders. The lecture is free to the public and there will be a reception at 6:00 p.m.
