The Institute of Caribbean Studies wishes to express its deep and sincere condolences to the Thompson family, and to the Government and People of Barbados, at the untimely passing of its dearly beloved and Honourable Prime Minister David Thompson.
The late Prime Minister Thompson holds a special place in the hearts of Caribbean people; ICS in particular remembers him for his enthusiasm and noticeable presence at the first ICS Symposium on Caribbean Investment and Economic Opportunity back in June 1994. Then Minister of Finance, Thompson was the first Caribbean Minister who graciously agreed to address the Symposium participants thereby making it easier for other Caribbean Ministers to follow suit, and he was especially supportive of ICS’ Diaspora Agenda. ICS also remembers the late Prime Minister Thompson as a Caribbean Leader with undaunting vision and charisma. We were blessed by this service and commitment to community.
May his soul rest in peace.
