Minister of Transport, Works and Housing, Dr. the Hon. Omar Davies, will deliver the keynote address at the ‘Tenth Outlook for the Future Public Forum’ to be held on September 3 at the New York Hilton in Midtown Manhattan.
Sponsored by the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), the forum will give Jamaicans and friends of the island residing in the Tri-State area of New York,
New Jersey, and Connecticut, an opportunity to hear how the Government is addressing key issues affecting the country, its economy, and the society.
Among the other slated presenters are President and Chief Executive Officer of the Port Authority of Jamaica, Professor the Hon. Gordon Shirley; Managing Director, National Road Operating and Construction Company (NROCC), Ivan Anderson; Chairman, JNBS, Dr. The Hon. Oliver Clark; and General Manager, JNBS, Earl Jarrett.
Mr. Jarrett explained that the forum will highlight major Government projects under the theme: ‘Major Infrastructure Projects – Implications for Jamaica and Investments Opportunities for Investors and Jamaicans in the Diaspora’.
He pointed out that the forum comes against the background of the significant investment that Jamaica is currently making in infrastructure to prepare the country to realize economic opportunities arising from major global developments, including the opportunities from trade and logistics services arising from the expansion of the Panama Canal.
He added, “The forum will provide a context in which Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica can participate in dialogue on the economic future of the island.”
Launched by the JNBS in 2003, the ‘Outlook for the Future’ forum has been successful in bringing together representatives of successive administrations and key leaders in the Diaspora communities to engage in frank and open discussions about national issues affecting Jamaica.
