This year’s National Heritage Week will be celebrated under the theme, “My Expressions, My Traditions, My Jamaica”, which will run from October 12 to 20, 2014.
The celebrations will kickstart with a National Thanksgiving Church Service organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an agency of the Ministry of Youth and Culture on Sunday, October 12. The Service will be held at the May Pen Church of God in Jamaica, 22 Chapelton Road in Clarendon beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The JCDC Parish Offices in collaboration with the Parish Councils will stage Thanksgiving Church Services in each parish.
The week will also feature activities in each parish to celebrate our heritage including Heritage Celebrations, Displays and Parades, Heritage Quiz Competitions, Heritage Tours and Civic and Awards Ceremonies to honour outstanding Jamaicans.
On National Heroes Day, Monday, October 20, the celebrations will culminate with an annual “Salute to the National Heroes” at the National Heroes Circle in Kingston at 4:00 p.m.
