NCU Feast Of Lights To Be staged In Florida

As Jamaicans in the South Florida Diaspora often yearn for traditional Christmas cultural celebrations, they will share in the historic Northern Caribbean University (NCU) annual ‘Feast of Lights’ musical extravaganza to be held on Saturday (Dec. 13) at the War Memorial Auditorium in Sunrise.

The long established event to be officially opened by Jamaica’s Ambassador to the USA, His Excellency Anthony Johnson, is being staged outside of Jamaica for the first time since its 39th history of its anniversary.

Hosted by the South Florida alumni chapter of the NCU in Mandeville, the concert will continue its tradition to feature musical presentations from the school’s College of Arts and General Studies.  The events which will herald the Christmas holidays will include performances in music, drama and art from the School’s steel pan band and choir, and the renowned New England Youth Ensemble from Colombia Union College.  There will be a ceremonial parade of flags showcasing the school’s diverse population.

In addition, an art exhibition will be mounted at the event highlighting exhibits from the school’s Visual Arts department.

Several Jamaicans will be recipients of awards for their sterling contribution in the field of visual and performing arts to the NCU.

As she welcomed the NCU’s traditional Christmas program to the South Florida community, Jamaica’s Consul General Sandra Grant Griffiths praised the College for its inspirational leadership and mentorship provided over the years, adding that the ‘Festival of Lights’ program would reflect additional luster on its 39th anniversary.

Proceeds from the event will support the continued development of NCU’s College of Arts and General Studies as well as local charities adopted by the Florida alumni chapter.

Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased through ticketmaster or online at www.dahmusiclinx.com
