‘Plain & Simple’ is a painfully honest memoir of one woman’s journey through the ups and downs of life, love and the reggae industry. Author Shilo Evans describes in details her personal experiences as well as imparting the kind of wisdom, knowledge, and overstanding that can only be learned first hand.
Ms Shilo is a Jamaican born, Florida based journalist, blogger, publicist, promoter and artist manager who has worked in the reggae industry for the past 30 years. She is the founder of Celebrityplus.Net and her work has appeared in a number of leading Caribbean publications. She has worked with international reggae stars Gyptian, Bascom X, Ky-mani Marley, KC Jockey, I Wayne and Italis.
In an emotional interview with INL, Shilo said that her motivation for writing the book was life itself. “My life…the lives of others. God placed it in my heart from an early age to write my feelings and my experiences. When I had my website, I would write a blog every night…the same when we were active on MySpace. I still have emails in my possession from a few people who wrote to tell me that something that I had written had touched them in some way. I had someone in Ghana, and someone in Brazil write to me and tell me that they have a blog or two of mine taped to their bedroom wall. It made me feel good to know that something I had written was an inspiration to someone else. When you read the book which is more like my memoir, you’ll understand the reason I had to write it. It was beyond my control. I had to be obedient” she declared.
When asked about her expectation for the book she said “I have none. That might sound strange as I am sure someone reading might say what was the purpose if not for monetary gain. Well, this wasn’t written for that purpose. Of course I want it to be read and bought across the globe, but right about now, I feel that if something in Plain & Simple can make a difference in the life of even one person, I have done well and accomplished something worthwhile.”
