The real name of Mr Vegas is Clifford Smith and he is a true veteran of the Jamaican dancehall scene. In the period of 1997-98 he really showed his talent and versatility for the first time via tunes such as “Nike air” and of course “Heads high” the “monster-hit” that was the title track of his first successful CD.
In a highly competitive atmosphere, his career continued from success to success up until his hugely successful recent tunes, such as for example, “I Am Blessed” and the superb collaboration with Shaggy and Jose Wales “Sweet Jamaica”.
In the year of the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence, Vegas paid tribute to the culture of reggae with his double CD “Sweet Jamaica” which takes you through the decades of Jamaica music with covers of classics from Toots & the Maytals on the first CD, devoted to the “foundation”, while the second CD shows his expressive artistic ability with more recent or contemporary dancehall rhythms.
